This assignment tells SAP which product families (Divisions) a Sales Organisation is responsible for selling. Without it, the system cannot create a Sales Area. Without a Sales Area, nothing in Sales and Distribution makes sense. Pricing fails. Partner roles fail. Document flow sulks. The whole module quietly goes on strike.
A Division represents a product family. A Sales Organisation represents a legal seller. Assigning them tells SAP “yes, this entity is allowed to sell this family of products.”
Forget this step and the system politely refuses to do its job.
A Sales Organisation can only sell products that belong to the Divisions formally assigned to it.
This creates the Sales Area trio:
Sales Org + Distribution Channel + Division
If one part is missing, the chain breaks.
